After the highly successful mass rally last Saturday, BERSIH and their fight for an electoral reform has certainly caught the attention of the common people!
Here in Ipoh for an example, people who know that we (referring to my Muslim NGO group) had participated in the mass rally had asked us a lot of interesting questions about BERSIH. One of their most popular questions was whether or not it is true that our past elections were tainted with cheats and manipulations.
To be honest, we had a tough time answering that particular question. We know that such proof of malpractice can be found in great numbers in the internet but unfortunately it is not centralized. You can find all of them here and there in online alternative news providers such as MalaysiaKini, HarakahDaily, Malaysia Today and websites of our political opposition parties such as PAS, DAP and PKR.
That is bad, really bad. Surely we cannot expect people who are not internet savvy to go hopping from one website to another to look for reports on election malpractice. They certainly did not have the patience to do that unlike most of us who are used to digging juicy stories in the internet.
BERSIH! It is high time that you folks provide Malaysians with a centralized location dedicated especially to feature every single bits and pieces of information on election malpractices. Please, do it fast while people are still talking about it! You folks are on a roll at the moment and please take advantage of it. It is time to let all Malaysians know just how bad democracy is here in Malaysia.
