Malaysian Malay women… Beware of China-made Toys!

Fellow readers, if you have been keeping tabs with the news lately, you would know that Mattel Inc has recalled some of their China-made products worldwide. The worldwide recall is due to the discovery that their contract manufacturer in China was found using a non-approved paint pigment containing lead which violates numerous applicable consumer standards.

The truth is Mattel Inc is not the first toy company to recall China-made toys from the market. This year alone, many other toy companies have done the same! You can check this from the internet. The number is staggering! The whole recall mess is not entirely caused by paint pigments, some were caused by fire hazardous plastics and fabrics used on China-made toys.

You know, this whole thing disturbs me a little bit. Have you all wondered about those cheap China-made toys that we have in our Malaysian market today? How safe are they for our children? I have a few friends in the US and UK and they told me that such cheap China-made toy products are dangerous for kids! Luckily, their local consumer laws protect them from such dangerous products. You won’t see them being sold in their market. What about us here in Malaysia? Who’s looking after this issue for us? I don’t think our Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is doing anything about this. They probably spent most of their time sleeping on their jobs!

By the way Malaysian Malay women (wanita Melayu), did you know that we have a worldwide campaign on boycotting China-made products at the moment? Yes, we have! It is not a local campaign of course. It is run by Tibetans and their sympathizers. They have a lot of interesting stories on China. Go and see what it is all about. Good reading material! Highly recommended! You would see China in a different perspective soon after reading them. :-)
