I’m not at all amused with the reports published by HarakahDaily and MalaysiaKini about yesterday’s big mass picket held by our distressed bank employees over at the Maybank Tower.
HarakahDaily estimated that 13,000 bank employees had turned out for the mass picket. MalaysiaKini on the other hand gave a much smaller crowd count, a mere 4,000 people!
What the heck!? Come on!
I know that crowd counting is not easy especially when you do not have the proper tools to help you in coming up with a good estimation but that was ridiculous! Simply unacceptable!
Theoretically, we should be able to estimate crowds by dividing the area occupied by a crowd into sections. Determine the average number of people in each section and multiplying the result by the number of sections occupied. Voila! You should have your best-guessed crowd count!
I know that it is easier said than done but HarakahDaily and MalaysiaKini must strive to deliver information as accurate as possible to their readers. As the top two online alternative news providers in the country, they cannot fool around with such obvious information discrepancies anymore. Both of them should work together and deliver correct information to the wide public.
No more nonsense please!
