Better ask your kids to dump those regular lollipops that are bad for their teeth today and tell them that something better is coming their way. Tell them that soon they will be sucking herbal lollipops that can prevent cavities!
This cavity-fighting candy is brought to you by Wenyuan Shi, a microbiologist in UCLA. Wenyuan Shi found that an extract of licorice root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) can actually kills bacteria responsible for tooth decay.
Okay, that was the good news. The bad news is that the cavity-fighting lollipop only comes in one flavor, orange. Make some noise about it and he will probably produce more flavors in the near future. :-)
This is nothing to shout about really. Muslims can make their very own cavity-fighting candy if they want to but unfortunately nobody bothers to make it. You see, Salvadora persica extracts (Muslims one time ago use natural toothbrushes made from the twigs of the Salvadora persica tree) have better properties and characteristics than licorice root. Just ask WHO (World Health Organization)!
