What a disappointment!
MalaysiaKini earlier today reported that UMNO would not allow bloggers to cover their General Assembly scheduled to be in session on this coming 5th of November. Take note that the 5-day event would end on the 9th of November.
The reason for the banning of bloggers from covering the event is because UMNO did not consider bloggers as a part of the mass media machinery. I see, we bloggers are not full fledged reporters or journalists, eh…
This is another sad day for Malaysia. Such untimely decision made by UMNO may hurt this nation in the long run.
I would like to remind UMNO that the country’s ranking in Reporters Without Borders’s Press Freedom Index had plunged further down for the year 2007 compared to yesteryears. As matter of fact, it is our worst-ever ranking!
Did you smart folks over in UMNO know that many foreign and local top reporters and journalists are in fact bloggers?
Did UMNO ever consider the consequences for making such decision in the first place?
Don’t blame us if Malaysia dips further in the Press Freedom Index next year, UMNO. You can put the blame on your own selves!
UMNO, you folks should just be frank with everybody. Just say that bloggers are not invited because most of us bloggers did not worship you folks like the rest of your controlled media. :-)
