MTUC – Second Nationwide Picket scheduled on the 8th of August 2007!

All right Malaysian Malay women (wanita Melayu), I have a little public service announcement for every one of you today.

MTUC or Malaysian Trade Union Congress have decided to go ahead with their plan to launch a second nationwide picket on this coming 8th of August 2007. The locations for this second nationwide picket are expected to be the same as those conducted in the first one.

If you are a typical ignorant Malaysian Malay woman, I’m sure that you would not know anything about this. Okay, I’ll try to explain to you what they are fighting for in a jiffy. MTUC or Malaysian Trade Union Congress is fighting for a Minimum Wage Scheme for those working in the private sector. They are asking that a minimum wage of Malaysian ringgit $900.00 must be introduced and stipulated in the draconian and obsolete Malaysian Employment Act 1955. Other than that, MTUC also demanded that the government would coax or force employers in the private sector to give COLA (Cost of Living Allowance), a minimum of Malaysian ringgit $300.00 to their employees. That’s what they are fighting for. Got it?

I know that most of my Malaysian Malay women readers out there are quite well paid. Most probably, you are earning somewhere between Malaysian ringgit $1,500 – 3,000 per month. You were probably given some fancy office to work with and maybe your employer even gave you a little bonus, some silly big ‘pangkat’ (position of power) to make you feel good about yourself in the office. Well, good for you. Unfortunately, not everyone is that fortunate. There are those among you who are suffering, shedding tears every single day crying and wondering whether they have any future left in this world. Can you imagine just how hard it is for them to survive in Malaysia when they are only pathetically earning Malaysian ringgit $500.00 (some even lesser!) per month on average? Malaysian ringgit $500.00 is more or less equivalent to US$142.00. How can anybody live anywhere in this world on a measly US$142.00 per month?! Even those Eskimos are earning more than that! Bloody hell…

So, I hope that you lucky ones would do something to help our poor Malaysian brothers and sisters out there. Show a little support; just spend a few hours right after work to join MTUC in their planned nationwide picket on this coming 8th of August. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated and I’m sure that your little support would bright up the lives of our poor Malaysians at least for a single day. Frankly speaking, I haven’t seen them smile in happiness for a very long time. I really feel sorry for them. We lucky ones must not forget them. Please help them…

I would appreciate it if you could share this little public service announcement to your friends, colleagues and loved ones. Please email this to every one of them. Thank you.
