Malaysian Malay women & Malaysian football!

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) created a huge stir this evening when their deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah resigned from his post with immediate effect. No definite reason for his resignation has been recorded as of time of writing but I’m sure that the whole Malaysia would associate his departure with the humiliating defeats of our national team to China and Uzbekistan in the Asian Cup Finals.

It is quite sad to see that a man who has dedicated years in developing football in Malaysia has to go down and admit defeat. On the other hand, maybe this would be a blessing in disguise for Malaysian football. Our football standard has fallen way behind Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. I’m not going to point fingers to anybody but if the former deputy president resigned from his post because of that apparent failure then the failure should not be his alone. What about the rest of the leaders and decision makers within the association? They too should admit defeat, make an exit and let others more capable take over their jobs. The Football Association of Malaysia is a sporting body, so let true sportsmen or former great footballers with credentials handle the organization! We don’t need politicians in sports associations, do we?

What about you, Malaysian Malay women (wanita Melayu) out there? I noticed that you ladies are the loudest critiques of our local football scene. No doubt that you are thrown accidentally into knowing football because of your football crazy boyfriends, fiancés or husbands but some comments that I had received from many Malaysian Malay ladies out there are quite disturbing. You can condemn and criticize all you like but please do not think that managing football is an easy task. It is not like your Akademi Fantasia where you can just vote via SMS (AFUNDI) to separate the winners from the whiners. It is much tougher than that. Well, to add salt to an open wound, the number 2 post in FAM (The Football Association of Malaysia) is now vacant. So, if you think that you are up to the task, feel free to submit your resume to the current President. I would love to see how you ladies would fare when given the opportunity. :)

By the way my fellow readers… Please do not further criticize or condemn our national players. They are just doing their jobs. As matter of fact, I must say that I’m quite proud of them! Despite being condemned and criticized by the Malaysian public and national press, they never failed to don the national colors time after time. So, give them a break. The fault or failure lies in the system, not with the players. They are just pawns in the system. Cheers.
