What really happened between the police and our Malaysian Bar Council?

Folks!

Yesterday our Malaysian Bar Council had three police officers from the Putrajaya District Police HQ visiting them. The visitors were supposed to conduct an investigation into the ‘Walk of Justice’ march organized by the Malaysian Bar Council on the 26th September 2007.

The visitors’ original plan was to question Bar Council’s President Ambiga Sreenevasan, VP Ragunath Kesavan and Secretary Lim Chee Wee about the event. Take note that all three were present and accounted for in the meeting with the police officers yesterday.

The visit however took an about-turn when it was the visitors instead who have to answer some difficult question posed by our Malaysian Bar Council. MalaysiaKini has more on this story.

I have been playing the video released by MalaysiaKini over and over again and I have to say here today that I am absolutely mystified with the event. I just could not understand what those visitors were trying to do yesterday.

What sort of an investigation was that?

How come the Putrajaya District Police HQ dispatched three junior officers who were ill-equipped with information and knowledge on legal matters to the scene?

It doesn’t make any sense to me at all!

I can see that our Malaysian Bar Council’s trio was well prepared for the supposed investigation but I cannot say the same for the police officers. The visitors should not have made the trip in the first place! By right, Putrajaya police should have dispatched their most senior officers to meet the Malaysian Bar Council’s trio. Their clear lack of urgency in conducting their investigation smells fishy.

Perhaps they did not put much urgency on the matter because they know deep down that they did not really have a case against our Malaysian Bar Council. Time will tell whether that is true or not and we have all the time in the world.

I really envy our Malaysian Bar Council. They know the Law like the back of their hands and that help them in dealing with any nonsense thrown by the authorities. How I wish that every ordinary Malaysians could have such knowledge as well. This would help us from being abused and manipulated by the authorities who all this while took full advantage of our lack of knowledge and understanding on our given rights and privileges as stated under the Malaysian Law.

By the way, good work Malaysian Bar Council!
