The article is pretty straightforward. It was all about the month of Ramadhan, smoking and quitting smoking.
I truly applaud Francis’s effort in sharing what he knew about Muslim’s auspicious month of Ramadhan with his readers. It is comforting to see that the non-Muslims nowadays are very much aware of their Muslim friends’ obligations in this auspicious month. Indeed we Malaysians have learned something after all. :-)
I also applaud Francis’s apparent interest in kicking up his smoking habit. I would be more than happy to see more smokers kick that wasteful and dangerous habit of theirs. Well, he’s not going attempt to do that this year but he would give it a try next year. Good luck, Francis! :-)
In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you readers something that some ignorant and selfish Muslims have purposely hidden from the non-Muslims’ knowledge and understanding. The truth is out there in broad daylight but many Muslims today purposely ignored it.
Readers, do you know that smoking is actually forbidden in Islam?
I’m sure that the non-Muslims would be surprised to hear that since they can see many Muslims smoking cigarettes on daily basis. Yeah, it is a common sight here in Malaysia, isn’t it?
Well, I’m not kidding here, folks. It is true. Islam actually forbids Muslims from smoking cigarettes. Let me bring your attention to a Fatwa issued on the 1st of June 1999 by IslamWeb Dot Net. The Fatwa said, quote:
“Smoking is Haram (prohibited) due to its many harmful effects and bad consequences. This is a well-known generally accepted fact. No one could doubt or refute this truth. Harms of smoking have been proved through evidence that doctors have agreed upon.
Allah says (Interpretation of meaning): {They ask you (O! Muhammad) what is lawful for them (as food) say: lawful unto you are At-Tayibat (foods which Allah made lawful )}. [5:4].
Almighty Allah Say' stating the purpose for which He has sent the Prophet: {He allows them which is lawful (At-Tayibat) and prohibits them which is unlawful (Al-Khabaith). In brief the smoking is a means of killing oneself slowly and Almighty Allah has forbidden killing oneself. So no one should differ in its prohibition .”
There you are, folks! Let it be known to all today that Muslims are indeed forbidden to smoke cigarettes.
I know that majority of my blog readers are non-Muslims and I would like to ask for your little assistance on this matter. I’m sure that you have some good Muslim friends out there who smoke cigarettes. The next time you meet them, please remind them that they have a Fatwa issued against smoking. :-)
Thank you, folks. Have a nice day!
