National Angkasawan Programme: A failed feel-good government propaganda?

I don’t know, folks! Could be!

This Hari Raya holidays gave me the opportunity to meet lots of common Malaysians especially Malaysian Malays and I have been hearing many grouses and dissatisfactions about our much publicized National Angkasawan Programme.

If you are a regular reader and subscriber of our local online alternative news providers such as MalaysiaKini, HarakahDaily and Malaysia Today, I’m sure that you would not be too surprised to hear that many Malaysians are not happy with it. There were numerous articles, stories and commentaries highlighting such grouses and dissatisfactions.

Our Malaysian Malays especially are not really impressed with the National Angkasawan Programme even though the first Malaysian that had the opportunity to be launched into space was their very own kind. Nope, they are not impressed at all!

Who can blame them for being so hostile about it?

Our Malaysian Malays failed to understand why the world’s greatest government has the nerve to spent millions of dollars on such ambitious project when our very own backyard is far from picture perfect. :-( Let’s not talk about outer space here. What about over own inner space?

Have the government done enough to help our poor Malaysians working in the private sector?

Have the government done enough to combat crimes?

Have the government done enough to control price hikes and the ever increasing cost of living?

Have the government done enough to combat poverty among the poor?

Sorry Barisan Nasional, we should just stick to flying kites and Waus (very famous in the East Coast) instead of wasting millions of dollars in sending people to space!

Hi Saidul,

No Raya for you? Or perhaps you are blogging from the kampongs. Anyway, here is Selamat Hari Raya to you.

You said Malays are not happy? That seem to tie in with one blog where I read the blogger went deep into the kampongs and to his (I suppose the blogger is a his, if not, my apologies to the cik-cik and puan-puan) surprise, heard the humble kampong folks talking about what this and that blogger is talking about and read Malaysiakini and Harakah. Was it your blog because I do not visit that many Malaysian blogs? And did your balik kampong confirm what was mentioned above. If so, then maybe Malaysia has some hope (but sorry for saying this, not in the sense of PAS eventually making Malaysia an Islamic state).

And did you read the plea by Haris Ibrahim who is struggling to get that miserable 5000 signatures for his petition to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to take the petition to the kampong folks, explain the situation and plea with them to sign the petition. And did you read about this journalist of Malaysiakini (I think) who wants to take leave of absense because she (I think not he) was very disappointed at the Malaysians who are so indifferent to the sad situation of our country, who may talk but not do (referring to the difficulties in Haris getting his miserable small figure of 5000 signature for such an important issue for Malaysia).

I hope you did that (take the petition to the kampong even tho it is Raya)
