We seem to have a lot of those here in Malaysia. Sadly, we have a lot of those in other parts of the world too. :-(
Do you really know what nationalism or racism is all about?
According to Wikipedia, nationalism is, quote:
“Nationalism is a term that refers to a doctrine[1] or political movement[2] that holds that a nation—usually defined in terms of ethnicity or culture—has the right to constitute an independent or autonomous political community based on a shared history and common destiny.[3] Most nationalists believe the borders of the state should be congruent with the borders of the nation.[4] Extreme forms of nationalism, such as those propagated by fascist movements in the twentieth century, hold that nationality is the most important aspect of one's identity and attempt to define the nation in terms of race or genetics.”
On racism, Wikipedia defined it as, quote:
“According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another race or races. The Merriam-Webster's Webster's Dictionary dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief.[1] The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism thus: the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others.”
If you are a rational person, I’m sure that you would find that both nationalism and racism are stupid and foolish. How can we ever achieve peace here on earth if such stupidity and foolishness haunt us every where we go?
As a Muslim, I could not help but express my condemnation for any groups that based their struggles upon either nationalism or racism. If you are wondering why, the short video that I have provided down below should give you the answer. The video is a short recording of a lecture session given by a well known Islamic scholar. He was given a question about nationalism and racism and his answer was spot on!
I sincerely hope that the Malaysian Malay (Melayu) Muslims in UMNO (the biggest political party here) that are obsessed with their political agenda here in Malaysia would soon realize that their struggle is pointless. This is one of the reasons why I had said so many times here in this blog that UMNO is no longer relevant to Islam and to the Malaysian Malay Muslims. Their path has indeed strayed far from the Truth! :-(
