A better Malaysia according to Transparency International'€™s 2007 Corruption Perceptions Index?

‘We have a better Malaysia today!’, that’s probably what our government officials would say after Transparency International released their Corruption Perceptions Index for the year of 2007 recently.

Come on, we only improved slightly, a mere 0.1 point compared to last year. We may have notched up one place to number 43 this year compared to 44 last year; the improvement is really nothing to shout about. We have not achieved ‘Merdeka’ just yet. We are still down in the dumps.

Luckily, the StarOnline for an example did not hail this slight improvement as Barisan Nasional’s greatest achievement this year! I would have puked if they do that.

With the current crisis hitting our Malaysian judiciary and strategic establishments such as Port Klang Free Zone recently, I can foresee that our position would plunge further in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index next year. :-(

I do agree with what MalaysiaKini has said about the result of this year’s Corruption Perceptions Index. Feel free to read what they have to say about it.

Just look at Singapore, our neighboring country down south. They are sitting pretty at number 4! No wonder our government gave Singapore so much room in our multi billion dollar Iskandar Development Region project. I guess foreign investors trust Singaporeans more than us Malaysians. :-)

Bwah! Ha! Ha!

By the way, does anyone out there know just how much the government has spent to lobby success and improvement for the nation in this 2007 Corruption Perceptions Index?
