Breast cancer. Check your level of awareness!

Let’s talk about breast cancer today. In general, it is the fifth most common cause of cancer attributed death in the world. It is more common to women than men worldwide. The most prevalent type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma, a form of inflammatory breast cancer that has been diagnosed in 65-90% of all reported breast cancers. Breast cancer is indeed a major concern for modern women.

Luckily, women can help themselves in early detection of some forms of breast cancer through an exercise known as BSE or Breast Self-Examination. It is important to keep note here that BSE IS NOT a good and reliable substitute for other recommended screening methods such as mammography. BSE is best if performed appropriately and regularly. It is reported that discovering 8 to 10 lumps when doing BSE is pretty normal. However, it is best to report any abnormalities straight to your personal doctor. It is also important to take note here that BSE is not all about touching and feeling for lumps in your breasts. There is more to it and it is best that women seek the help and assistance from their local health providers in teaching them the proper ways of conducting BSE.

To make it plain and simple for every woman, this BSE exercise is also known as the 7 P’s method:

  1. Position
  2. Perimeter
  3. Palpation
  4. Pressure
  5. Pattern
  6. Practice and
  7. Plan

A lot of women knew about this required BSE exercise but many took them for granted. Even though it has been strongly recommended to conduct this self exercise every month usually 7 to 10 days after the start of their menstruation period, there are many who neglected their self obligations. Women who are breastfeeding are also guilty of this lack of seriousness in staying in touch with their own health. Not many realized that breastfeeding women are required to check their breasts after each breastfeeding!

Now, do you know about the requirements as mentioned above? Are you aware of your own self obligations towards your own personal health? Please place your vote here.
