Our Yang di-Pertuan Agung, standing in the eyes of the world?

‘Standing in the eyes… standing in the eyes…’
‘Standing in the eyes of the world…’

Hey Malaysians! Do you remember that catchy tune?

No, it’s not from that Wee Meng Chee’s YouTube video, silly. The catchy tune was our theme song for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. It was sung by Ella if I’m not mistaken. A very nice song, I must say! :-)

That was in 1998. It was our athletes, sportsmen and sportswomen that captured the spotlights then. Lately however, it is our monarchy, the Yang di-Pertuan Agung himself that is under the spotlight of the world.

Take a look at this report as published by the International Herald Tribune yesterday. Thanks to Raja Petra Kamarudin and his stinging Malaysia Today blog, our monarch the Yang di-Pertuan Agung received an honorable mention in International Herald Tribune.

International Herald Tribune said, quote:
The power to legislate and govern resides with parliament and the prime minister, but the king — Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin — remains an authority figure who commands respect among Malaysia's ethnic Malay Muslim majority.”
But err… what did they meant by ‘Malaysia’s ethnic Malay Muslim majority’? Isn’t our Yang di-Pertuan Agung, a symbol of unity for all Malaysians?

Whatever it is, we should have more stories like this on the world news. This would give our monarchy the much needed encouragement and support to help Malaysians in combating numerous national issues and concerns that had plagued the nation like cancer lately.

Folks over at MalaysiaKini and HarakahDaily should follow the examples shown by Raja Petra Kamarudin and his Malaysia Today blog. Don’t let him walk alone, folks!
