Something unprecedented had happened during the launching of ECER (East Coast Economic Region) on the 29th of October 2007!
For the first time in our political history, Tuan Guru Dato’ Haji Nik Abdul Aziz was given the rare opportunity to give a speech in the presence of Pak Lah!
The event is quite sweet and special for PAS and I’m happy for them. Unfortunately, some folks did not share my feelings. Nik Aziz’s historic speech was not even mentioned in mainstream newspapers and television channels. Full emphasis was given to Pak Lah’s speech instead. Even MalaysiaKini and Malaysia Today did not mention anything about it.
Figures! I know their true colors now. :-)
Nik Aziz’s speech was really touching and heart warming. News and rumors have it that some people who were there in ECER’s launching ceremony were reduced to tears upon hearing it. Text or transcript copies of Nik Aziz’s speech was a highly sought after memorabilia at the end of the ceremony. I don’t know about that but I do have tears in my eyes upon hearing Nik Aziz’s speech. I have a video of his full speech down below and I hope you folks could spare some time to view it. You can also get the full transcript of his speech from HarakahDaily Dot Net.
Thank you, Nik Aziz! |
I hope and pray that this unprecedented event is a sign for better things to come between PAS and Barisan Nasional especially UMNO. InsyAllah!
By the way Pak Lah… Nik Aziz was right! There is no point in introducing and developing ‘modal insan’ if full emphasis on religion is not taken into account. Religion must come first! You should spend more time with good Muslims such as Nik Aziz, Pak Lah. Don’t spend too much time with hypocrites and snakes for they would only bring you closer to self destruction.
Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
People used to ask the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) about the good deeds, but I used to ask him about the bad deeds fearing lest they overtake me. I said: Messenger of Allah, we were in the midst of ignorance and evil, and then Allah brought us this good (time through Islam). Will there be any bad time after this good one? He said: Yes. I asked: Will there be a good time again after that bad time? He said: Yes, but therein will be a hidden evil. I asked: What will be the evil hidden therein? He said: (That time will witness the rise of) people who will adopt ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine. You will know good points as well as bad points. I asked: Will there be a bad time after this good one? He said: Yes. (A time will come) when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Who so responds to their call they will throw into the fire. I said: Messenger of Allah, describe them for us. He said: All right. They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and speaking our language. I said: Messenger of Allah, what do you suggest if I happen to live in that time? He said: You should stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader. I said: If they have no (such thing as the) main body and have no leader? He said: Separate yourself from all these factions, even if you have to eat the roots of trees (in a jungle) until death comes to you and you are in this state.

Hi Saidul,
Thanks for offering that perhaps you will address the concerns of some non-Muslims commentators, among which I think I am one. Regarding Islam contribution, I know about the Golden Age of Islamic Spain in Medivial Europe. I know about the contributions Muslim scholars. What I am concerned about is the FACT than non-Muslim DO NOT have equal rights in an Islamic state. I look forward to you addressing this issue.
Regarding Nik Aziz's speech, I did surf over to Harakah online, but it is in BM. I am conversant with BM but not very fluent. It will take time for me to fully understand the message he has for us, and I have not the luxury of time. I don't know about you. I do hope that you or your learned Muslim circle of friends can do a translation of Nik Aziz's speech so we can quickly skim through and get the message he wants to convey.
Thank you for entertaining (not in the pleasure sense) us by engaging with us non-Muslims when other Muslims will dismiss us by saying we have to right to discuss Islam because we do not know Islam and are not Muslim.
