Our Malaysian Bar Council has finally confirmed that the so called Witness Protection Act mentioned by Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz a few days ago is non-existent in our Malaysian legislation!
The confirmation was brought to you free of charge by our bold President of the Malaysian Bar Council, Madam Ambiga Sreenevasan. Among other things, she said that:
- To the best of their knowledge, there is no such thing as a Witness Protection Act in Malaysia.
- The only thing that come close to that so called Witness Protection Act are some provisions stated under the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 (Section 53). However, it does not really provide protection as crowed by Nazri Abdul Aziz.
- To add salts to Nazri Abdul Aziz’s battered pride and troubled wound, our Madam President further highlighted that the Commissions of Enquiry Act 1950 offers the best protection for any evidences put forward by whistleblowers and the whistleblowers themselves would not be liable to any legal suit or civil proceeding.
Interesting indeed!
Wonder what UMNO’s tough guy might say about all this now?
The confirmation came at the right time; right after some parties had earlier denied that such Witness Protection Act existed here in Malaysia. MalaysiaKini highlighted their denials in their ‘Mr Nazri, what Witness Protection Bill?’ article yesterday.
Thank you Madam President! Thank you Malaysian Bar Council! Thank you for clearing this up for all Malaysians!
