Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy is quitting his post?

My Malaysian Chinese friends had hinted that Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy is contemplating on quitting his post as the Minister of Transport for some time now but I did not exactly believe them then. After all, no news about it was ever highlighted by our news media. Even our opposition parties have not said anything about it.

At least, not until today. I was quite surprised when MalaysiaKini today published a report that confirms the hints that my friends had earlier hinted. According to MalaysiaKini, Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy has threatened to quit his post as Transport Minister. So far, only MalaysiaKini had covered this surprising story. MCA, DAP, PKR and PAS have not said anything about this yet.

What I could not understand is why MalaysiaKini used the word ‘threatened’? Did he threatened to quit or did he gave hints that he wants to quit?

MalaysiaKini speculated that Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy is under tremendous pressure lately due to controversies that have arisen from the Port Klang Free Zone saga. If we go by what has been reported by DAP on the 6th of September 2007, it does look as if Port Klang Free Zone is ridden with problems, dodgy dealings and scandals.

Hmm… Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Port Klang Free Zone was first mooted and developed in the time of Tun Dr Mahathir? There were numerous figures involved in the project then.

Should Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy alone be held responsible for Port Klang Free Zone’s mess?

Is he really guilty of negligence as some folks had claimed?

I don’t know, folks. To me, Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy is a victim of circumstances that have gone out of control even before he has the opportunity to do anything about it. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

you are too quick in absolving him of blame. yes, the project was approved under the time of Tun Mahatir and Ling. But, the execution and subsequent cost inflation is under the current administration.
are you still surprise they are those in Klang who now openly kiss the feet of SIL?
