I would like to quote some of Malaysia Today’s story here today.
In one section we have, quote:
“MB Selangor Khir Toyo dalam Utusan Malaysia hari ini menyatakan bahawa Umno sebenarnya tidak ditubuhkan di Johor sebagaimana yang difahami ramai tetap di Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, Kg Bharu yang ketika itu berada di bawah Selangor.”Basically what it meant is that UMNO was not established in Johor as commonly believed. UMNO was actually established at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kg Bharu which at that time was still under the jurisdiction of the State of Selangor. How much this is true remains to be seen. I can see from the comments left by Malaysia Today readers that many refuted this claim. Maybe someone should clear this up once and for all.
In another section we have, quote:
“(Shamsiah Fakeh menulis: Sejarah telah membuktikan bahawa dalam perjuangan menuntut kemerdekaan tidak ada ahli Umno yang ditangkap atau yang dipenjarakan oleh kerajaan penjajah British. Apatah lagi tiada seorang pun yang mati ditali gantung)”Let’s make this plain and simple. What it meant is that history has proven that not a single UMNO member were caught, detained or hanged to death by the British in the fight for the independence of Malaya.
This is the most interesting part of Malaysia Today’s story for me personally.
What does this awful truth tell us?
Does this mean that the so called independence of Malaya was given to us by our colonial master (British) because those who sought independence through diplomatic channels then were their favorite, preferred and pampered groups?
Did the British silently prefer and favor those (‘mat saleh’ wannabes, I presume) who had been assimilated with their British ways (damn secular!)?
I wonder what those folks over at MalaysiaKini would say about this. Hmm…
