Folks!
I would like to bring your attention to the following Fatwa issued by IslamWeb Dot Net on the 17th of January 2004:
Despite my attempt to help clarify this perplexing topic, I do not wish to see Malaysian Muslims and Malaysian Christians get into each other’s throat. We should not argue about this.
Please bear in mind that the issue was raised by Barisan Nasional. They knew about it for quiet some time all ready but why they chose to make a big issue out of it right now?
Why? I think the answer is pretty simple.
The government is playing a dangerous game at the moment. Perhaps they want to split the common bond of friendship between our Malaysian Muslims and Malaysian Christians. You of all folks should know all about the government’s dirty tactics by now. Divide and conquer, remember?
They have done the same thing recently. They manipulated HINDRAF and turn the Malays (not all Malays though) against the Hindus. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned us about this and you folks out there should not make a big issue out of this.
We need every concerned Malaysian to stick together through thick and thin for the sake of the nation. A divided nation would only benefit Barisan Nasional in the next general election.

But we fully agree with you that this religous issue was brought out at this time to divide and rule by UMNO, and also Johari wanted to deflect the latest news about his own link to corruption case.
